Art Linkletter's Young World Show in Toledo

Young dancers from Toledo, Sylvania, Perrysburg and beyond performed with the Art Linkletter studio show at Start High School in 1968.

Art Linkletter (1912 – 2010) was a popular television and radio show host whose career on the airwaves dated all the way back to the 1930s.

In the 1960s, Linkletter started a dance school in California, the Art Linkletter School of Jazz, Tap, and Ballet.  More Art Linkletter studios and competitions soon sprang up all across the United States, including Northwest Ohio.

In 1968, Art Linkletter's Young World enrolled dancers from across Northwest Ohio, and brought them to Start High School to put on a happy little show.  Linkletter, known as an advocate for family values and children, was undisputedly a world-famous celebrity.  But to a few young dancers and their parents in the Toledo area, his name will forever be associated with the bright lights of a stage located a bit closer to home.

Some Northwest Ohioans may also recall Linkletter's appearance at a Toledo Christian School Banquet and Fundraiser where he was the featured speaker in the 1980s.  Linkletter, known as an advocate for family values,  was married to his wife Lois for 74 years.  One of his more famous quotes is, “I stand fearlessly for small dogs, the American Flag, motherhood and the Bible. That's why people love me.”

Below is the program of the June 1968 Art Linkletter's Young World "Say It With Dancing" show.  Do you recognize any names?
